Features of Multispan

1. Thermal insulation

Because insulation material is filled across the entire panel width, the product offers high thermal performance. Insulated ceiling materials reduce the temperature difference between the surface and the backside, making them effective for condensation prevention. When used in areas with air-conditioning systems, they also contribute to reduced heating and cooling costs.

About Condensation Control

Ordinary “condensation” refers to the phenomenon in which warm, humid indoor air comes into contact with cold walls or ceilings, causing water droplets to form on the surface. This occurs when humid air touches surfaces cooled below the dew point temperature, leading to condensation that appears as droplets on walls and ceilings. (Hereafter referred to as Condensation Type 1)
In addition to this ordinary condensation, there is another type that occurs when water vapor (steam) generated in cooking areas rises and collides with the ceiling surface, forming condensation due to this impact. (Hereafter referred to as Condensation Type 2)

When condensation occurs, the following issues arise (risks of food safety incidents):
●Mold grows in condensation water → contamination caused by mold
●Condensed water drips from the ceiling → risk of foreign matter contamination

Solutions for Condensation Type 1: “Thermal insulation” as a preventive measure

To prevent Condensation Type 1, it is necessary to minimize the temperature difference between indoor air and the ceiling or wall surfaces it contacts. Using materials with thermal insulation performance is an effective solution.
For this reason, “Multi-Span” is designed to deliver thermal performance by filling the panel with insulation material.
Note: This is not a prefabricated insulation panel for low-temperature spaces such as refrigerators or freezers. Comparisons are made with conventional mineral-based ceiling materials.

Solutions for Condensation Type 2: Ventilation is essential in addition to insulation

An effective countermeasure for Condensation Type 2 is indoor ventilation (exhausting water vapor). Especially by removing air above sources of water vapor, condensation can be significantly reduced. In addition, measures such as using circulators to blow air and dry surfaces before vapor condenses on the ceiling, or installing dehumidifiers to reduce humidity, are also effective.

Moisture control above the ceiling: addressing condensation issues in ceiling cavities

When considering moisture control, it is assumed that Multi-Span alone cannot provide complete moisture protection, and additional measures are required. As standard installation specifications, ventilation of the ceiling cavity (attic space) and waterproofing measures for the substrate are included.

When mechanical ventilation in the ceiling cavity is not available

To prevent corrosion of the substrate caused by moisture intrusion into the ceiling cavity, ensure at least minimal natural ventilation so that moisture does not accumulate.
As an additional moisture control measure, it is recommended to apply natural ventilation combined with an airtight moisture barrier sheet (Fukuvi Barrier Ace) directly onto lightweight steel framing.

2.Stain Resistance

In food facilities, contamination must be avoided as much as possible.
If dirt adheres to ceilings due to dust or condensation, materials that do not allow stains to penetrate and that can be easily wiped clean are ideal.

Multi-Span is highly stain-resistant and designed with post-installation maintenance in mind

Multi-Span uses aluminum sheets treated with a special coating certified as “difficult to stain and easy to clean even outdoors” (Civil Engineering Anti-Stain Class 1 certified). Naturally, as an interior finishing material, it also effectively prevents dirt from penetrating the coating film, offers easy stain removal, and improves chemical resistance, making it highly effective during maintenance.
Even oil stains unique to factory environments can be easily wiped off.

3.Corrosion Resistance

In harsh food factory environments, temperature, humidity, and chemical exposure can cause certain metals to rust easily, increasing the risk of food safety incidents. Multi-Span uses aluminum, which is considered relatively resistant to rust, and applies rust-resistant coatings for added protection.

About rust

Condensation-related rust occurs as a result of oxygen in the air reacting with metal. While all metals can rust, iron is particularly prone to corrosion, whereas aluminum is considered relatively rust-resistant.
Aluminum rust appears as “white rust,” which differs in appearance from the red rust typically associated with iron.

Rust-Resistant coating specification

Although rust can occur on any metal, one effective prevention method is coating the metal surface to create a protective layer. The surface coating of Multi-Span consists of a three-layer structure. Even if the top coating layer is damaged, the two underlying layers—the anchor layer and the chromate layer—prevent further corrosion. As a result, the surface remains highly resistant to rust.

Rust prevention

Rust is caused by airborne contaminants. When such contaminants adhere to the aluminum surface and are left for extended periods, moisture can cause rusting, especially in areas where the surface has been scratched.
Therefore, the most effective way to protect against rust is regular maintenance (cleaning). Please rinse off dirt adhered to the panels with water on a regular basis (approximately once a month).

4.Safety

Ceramic-based ceiling materials may pose risks such as cracking during earthquakes, breakage and falling, or debris dropping due to surface deterioration. Multi-Span is a lightweight, crack-resistant aluminum composite panel with integrated insulation, and can therefore be confidently proposed for its excellent seismic performance.
〈Ceiling material weight〉
Multi-Span: 1.7 kg/m²
Decorative calcium silicate board t6mm (specific gravity 1.0): 6.0 kg/m²
Plasterboard t12.5mm: 8.5 kg/m²

Seismic performance

In order to verify the level of seismic resistance of our lightweight insulated panels under Notification No. 771 specifications, a large-scale full-size seismic vibration test was conducted.

5.Non-Combustibility

Multi-Span is a certified non-combustible product (Non-combustible certification No. NM-1838; K color excluded). In food facilities, fire is frequently used for cooking. To reduce damage in the event of a fire, the Building Standards Act requires that rooms equipped with fire-using appliances such as stoves be subject to interior finish restrictions, and ceiling materials must be semi-noncombustible or non-combustible.

6.Ease of Installation

Lightweight and easy to handle with excellent workability, making installation highly efficient. It is installed on LGS (light-gauge steel) substructures and can also be used for renovation projects. A full lineup of compatible finishing components is available for reliable detailing.
